H & H Canteens is a canteen service provider for schools and companies, overseeing all aspects of your food and beverage facility, whether it be your canteen, tuckshop or cafeteria.  H & H Canteens work as a partner with our customers, maintaining close relationships, to ensure that we deliver what is required, including the best quality in food and service to staff and students.

We ensure the canteen is fitted with all the necessary equipment for its operation, and appoint ambitious, hard-working entrepreneurs to manage the business.  Our managers have an opportunity to run their own canteen, without requiring a large injection of cash for start-up.  We provide extensive training and structured guidelines to help the canteen run efficiently and successfully.

“I started with Hungry Hamper in 2012 at a relatively small high school, which was good in hindsight as I got to learn the job in a smaller environment.

I had experience in catering, although that is not necessary, as Hungry Hamper and the area supervisor are there to help you out at the start, and also whenever you need. Before I even started we had a training at head office to show us how to complete paperwork, council records as well as tips on displaying your food.

Unlike other businesses, there is very little to outlay financially to start your own business. Hungry Hamper supply all of the larger appliances, so all you need to purchase is stock and a deposit/bond for the equipment. This eliminates any financial risk, as you really can’t lose!

I now have three schools, a larger high school and two large primary schools, as well as a Kindergarten that is attached to one of the primary schools that uses online ordering once a week for students and staff. I employee 7 staff.

I love my job, not many people can say that, as it gives me a good income, flexible hours (as I am the boss), week-ends free and all of the school holidays. This is a big bonus as I have children of my own, and that means I can take them to sport etc after school and week-ends. I work approx. 50-55hrs per week, which may seem a lot, but it’s only for 10 weeks and you get holidays!

Our Services

Our on site managers are appointed to look after the day-to-day operation of your canteen / tuckshop / cafeteria and attend to everything required for the management of a food business including ordering food, arranging staff, paying bills and banking.  They have training on commencement and ongoing support from our Area Supervisors, who will also regularly meet with you to ensure your needs and expectations are being met.

Online ordering is also a part of our scope and set up by us, and we have a number of additional options including excursion packs, fundraising and take-home meals.  We understand the need for the catering of special dietary requirements, eg. gluten free, nut free and vegetarian, to name but a few.  We can provide on site catering for any meetings or events your school or company might hold.

Our system is designed for the ease of use, for all involved; you do what you do and know that you can leave us to do what we do, in partnership and naturally as a team.  We believe life is complex enough as it is so let’s keep at least one thing simple!

FRIENDLY CHAT

Drop us a line or send us an email and our National Manager will have a friendly chat with you about your school, it’s current canteen operation and your requirements.

Step 2

PROPOSAL

We’ll prepare a proposal for you and one of our team members will arrange a time to meet with you, where they will personally hand to you our proposal and visit the canteen facility.

Step 3

LET’S GET STARTED!

The dotted lines get signed, we’ll get on to sourcing a canteen manager who is the right fit for you and your school, make introductions, we’ll take care of your canteen operation and you have a stress removed with more time to focus on other matters.

Frequently asked questions

 
How long until we can have you start?
A. We like to have at least four weeks to prepare but the process can be sped up to meet deadlines.
Do we need to purchase any equipment?
A. We will provide all equipment for the site if the necessary equipment is not currently onsite (excluding fixed items).  All we ask is that you provide for any connections that might be required.
Is a subsidy required to have you operate our canteen?
A. No. In most instances we will pay you!
Do you follow the healthy eating guidelines?
A. We follow the guidelines that you want to follow. The guidelines are just that, guidelines. If you want a green menu, we will provide this. If you would prefer a café style menu, giving all your staff and students a broader choice with their on-site food experience, then we can do this too.
Is there a minimum number of students that you require to be able to service us?
A. We have a number of service options available to suit different sized schools so please contact us for more information.
Is there a minimum number of employees that you require to be able to service us?
A. We have a number of service options available to suit different sized companies so please contact us for more information.
Can you assist with fundraising activities?
A. Indeed we can! We have partnered with Bake with Faith so we have delicious cookie mix boxes available for your fundraising activities.
Is your service nationwide?
A. Currently we service Victoria and the Gold Coast, Queensland, but please contact us as we would be happy to assist in finding the right solution for you.
I would love to be a part of your team as one of your canteen managers. How do I do this?
A. Please get in touch with us and let us know what area you are interested in and the Area Supervisor for that region will give you a call to chat about the opportunities we have available or coming up.
We want our premises to be nut free. Is this possible?
A. We will take best precautions to ensure there are no peanuts and tree nuts in the foods we provide.
